B.Sc. Biotechnology Biotechnology is a broad discipline in which biological processes, organisms, cells or cellular components are exploited to develop new technologies. New tools and products developed by biotechnologists are useful in research, agriculture, industry and clinic. Modern biotechnology provides breakthrough products and technologies to combat debilitating and rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, use less and cleaner energy, and have safer, cleaner and more efficient industrial manufacturing processes.

Only 15 years old modern biotechnology is already a ten billion dollar industry in India. The industry broadly encompasses the fields of biopharma, agribiotech, industrial biotech, bioinformatics and biomaterials. The biotechnology sec tor of India is highly innovative and is on a high growth trajectory. The sector has immense growth potential and plays an important role as an innovative manufacturing hub. The sector is one of the most significant sectors in enhancing India's global profile as well as contributing to the growth of the economy. There are wide variety of areas where biotechnology has the potential to make an impact in India. Infectious diseases such as Malaria, AIDS, lifestyle diseases, public sanitation, food waste, and pollution outline some of these.

Sustainability and environmental concerns are the highest priority areas which should be embraced by every discipline of science and technology. Only Biotechnology has a potential to offers most cost effective solutions for innovation in India.

Rajiv Gandhi Institute provides the necessary opportunities for the student seeking to obtain a degree in this sector. To keep pace with recent developments and to be able to introduce new generation technologies to the young graduates . T he B.Sc. course curriculum has been revised and framed under choice based credit system in 2015. The curriculum is unique in including bio - entrepreneurship oriented subjects in addition to the fundamental biotechnology. The Core courses are intended to impart fundamental knowledge in allied disciplines of Biotechnology. The Open Courses are value addition courses aimed to provide exposure in applied areas of Biotechnology and to provide basic skills for employability and entrepreneurship. The general courses are activity based targeting the development of soft skills of students.

Candidates satisfying the following conditions are eligible to apply for admission to B.Sc. Biotechnology program

  • The candidate should have passed Higher Secondary School Certificate (10+2) or its equivalent examination with at least 45% (40% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate.
  • Subject to the above conditions, the final admission is based solely on the merit at the all India entrance test (BBT) conducted by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University

The minimum credits required to complete the program are 156 which normally takes a three years or six semesters. The medium of instruction and examination is English.

Admission to the B.Sc. Biotechnology is now open. Students will be admitted to B.Sc. Biotechnology course in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of IT & Biotechnology, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University on the basis of the merit obtained by them in the All India Common Entrance Test (CET-BBT-2016 ) .
